On the ground in Shenzhen

An English-Chinese interpreter and translator in Shenzhen.

Shenzhen runs on speed, and English is patchy the moment you leave the showroom. Huaqiangbei is the world's biggest electronics market, but it's a directory, not a factory: you use it to learn the going rate, then go to the line.

The real production sits in the Bao'an and Longgang industrial zones, with Dongguan a routine day trip away. This is hardware, PCB and 3C territory, and the prices that matter are quoted in Mandarin in the back office. Cantonese still helps with the older Shenzhen and Hong Kong-linked trading firms.

The going rate, not the tourist rate.

Huaqiangbei sets the price; the Bao'an and Longgang lines hold it. You hear what is said when the room thinks you can't follow.

YOUR TRIP
FAQ

Shenzhen interpreter, your questions.

Can you cover Dongguan factories in the same trip?
Yes. Dongguan is a routine day trip from Shenzhen. Send me the supplier addresses and I'll plan the route so we cover the most ground in a day.
Do you understand electronics terminology?
I interpret BOM lines, tooling, MOQ and lead-time talk without slowing the meeting down. Huaqiangbei and the Bao'an factory floor are familiar ground.
Is Huaqiangbei enough, or do I need to visit factories?
Huaqiangbei tells you the market rate and who's out there, but for real volume and quality control you visit the line. I use the market to shortlist, then take you to the factory.
What does a day in Shenzhen actually cost?
The full card is published above: $80–$140 for a half-day, $99–$250 for a full day working Huaqiangbei plus a Bao'an or Longgang factory, $800–$1,250 for a week. City travel and a written summary are in the price. No hourly meter, no separate translation fee bolted on at the end.
Are you tied to particular factories or agents?
No. You pay me, the suppliers pay me nothing, and I take no commission from anyone in Huaqiangbei, Bao'an or Dongguan. That independence is the point: I'll tell you when a factory is really a trading company reselling, which a supplier-paid fixer never will. See product sourcing.
Do you work alone, and what if you're booked?
On a normal Shenzhen job you get me, not a junior sent in my place. For a large delegation splitting across Huaqiangbei and several factories at once, I bring in interpreters I have personally vetted. If I'm already booked for your dates I'll say so in the same 12-hour window and point you to someone I trust.
