An English-Chinese interpreter and translator in Chengdu.
Chengdu is the manufacturing and logistics anchor of West China, the second-largest city in the west and a magnet for inland relocation of electronics and consumer-goods production. The high-tech zone around Gaoxin and Tianfu Software Park handles IC packaging, laptops and components; consumer goods, food and packaging sit in the outer districts toward Pidu, Wenjiang and Shuangliu.
The set-piece for buyers is the Western China International Fair (Western China Expo), the region's biggest investment-and-trade event. Outside the showrooms, expect everyday business to run in Mandarin coloured with Sichuanese dialect, which is exactly where an interpreter who knows the city earns the fee.

Is the Sichuanese dialect a problem for meetings?
Suppliers will speak Mandarin to you, but they fall back into Sichuanese among themselves, and that's often where the real numbers and reservations get said. I follow both, so nothing useful slips past you.
Can you cover the Western China International Fair?
Yes. Tell me which halls and suppliers you want to hit and I'll plan a route through the fair so you cover the most relevant booths in a day, with a written shortlist by evening.
Do you handle factory visits outside the city centre?
Yes. The consumer-goods and electronics plants sit out toward Pidu, Wenjiang and Shuangliu. Send the addresses and I'll sequence the day so travel time doesn't eat your meetings.
What does a day's sourcing in Chengdu cost?

Do you work alone, and what if your dates are taken?
