Services

Seven ways I earn my day rate.

I've assisted foreign clients from all over the globe, interpreting supplier meetings, working conferences, sourcing products and inspecting factories. See all my interpreter and sourcing services.

Interpretingon the ground, in the room

01

Trade-show interpreting

Canton Fair, Stone Fair, Yiwu market. I qualify booths before you waste time at them and catch what the supplier says to his colleague, not just to you.

$99–$250 / day
02

Factory visits & meetings

Production-line walkthroughs and supplier negotiations, from steel structure works to shoe material factories, documented in my work log below.

$99–$250 / day
03

Conference & simultaneous

Committee sessions, panels and multi-day conferences, consecutive at your side or simultaneous from the booth. The interpreting you can't improvise on the day.

from $300 / day

Sourcing & procurementeyes and hands in China when you can't be

04

Supplier sourcing

I locate and vet suppliers before you commit, a factory, not a middleman; the real price, not the foreigner price. A shortlist worth your time, not a directory dump.

from $250 / project
05

Quality inspection

Already have a supplier? I walk the floor and check facilities, line and finished goods against your spec, photos and notes you can act on from abroad.

from $200 / visit
06

Sample procurement & proxy buying

Taobao, 1688, Pinduoduo have no English checkout and won't ship overseas. I buy, consolidate and forward, so chasing a sample order isn't a dead end.

from $80 / order

After the dealthe part that isn't work

07

Private tours & guiding

Once the deal is signed, I'll show you the country myself, Gulangyu and the Fujian Tulou, or further afield. The same hands that ran your week, not a coach-tour rep.

Selina walked Canton Fair with me for four days and qualified booths before I wasted an afternoon at them. I came home with two suppliers I'd have walked straight past on my own.

FAQ

The questions you'd ask anyway.

Are you an agency or one interpreter?
One interpreter. I'm Selina Chen, and when you book me you get me on the floor, not a name on an invoice while a junior you've never met turns up. No rotating roster, no subcontracting behind your back. The trade-off is honest: I can only be in one place at a time, so popular dates go early.
What does a day actually cost?
Half day $80–$140, a full sourcing day $99–$250, a full Canton Fair week $800–$1,250. Those are starting ranges, every job is quoted to your itinerary since the city, the number of days and the technical complexity set the exact figure. City travel and a written summary of each day are always in the rate, with no hourly creep and no surprise "translation fees" bolted on at the end. Need documents handled instead of a day in the room? That is a separate Chinese translator service, quoted on its own.
What happens after I send my dates?
You get a written quote in USD within 12 hours, not a "let's hop on a call" reply. A 30% deposit locks your dates; the balance is due after the work. Before you land I study your product list, map the venue and pre-screen suppliers, so day one is spent in meetings, not orientation. See how booking works.
What if you're already booked for my dates?
I'll tell you within the same 12-hour window and recommend a specific interpreter I personally trust, with their direct contact. You will never be quietly handed to a subcontractor.
How far ahead should I book?
Two weeks is comfortable for Fujian. For Canton Fair weeks and other major fairs, book 4-6 weeks out: those dates go first every season.
Do you only do business work?
Business is my core work, interpreting, sourcing and factory visits. But I also guide private tours, Gulangyu Island, the Fujian Tulou, Xiamen and nearby cities. Many clients add a day of sightseeing after their factory visits.
How do payments work?
30% deposit confirms a booking; balance after the work. Wire transfer, Wise, PayPal, or Alipay/WeChat for smaller engagements. All quotes in writing, in USD.
Will I understand you? Will you understand me?
I majored in English and have worked with clients from every continent. I'm familiar with different English accents, wherever you're from, we'll communicate effectively.
