On the ground in Hangzhou

An English-Chinese interpreter and translator in Hangzhou.

Hangzhou is China's e-commerce capital. Alibaba is headquartered here, and the Binjiang and Yuhang districts are thick with online-trade sourcing offices, agents and brand suppliers. Around that sits the older economy the city has always traded on: silk, Longjing (Dragon Well) tea, and apparel. It also sits an hour from Yiwu, so a Hangzhou trip often pairs a clean office meeting with a wholesale-market run.

English usually holds up in the e-commerce offices; it does not hold up once you're talking grade, weave, harvest and unit cost with a silk or tea supplier. I interpret across both registers, the SaaS-fluent online seller and the traditional-trade factory, so the negotiation doesn't stall where it matters.

YOUR TRIP
FAQ

Hangzhou interpreter, your questions.

Can you handle both e-commerce supplier meetings and traditional silk or tea sourcing?
Yes. The online-trade offices in Binjiang and Yuhang and the older silk, tea and apparel suppliers speak very different languages of business. I interpret both: terms and platforms on one side, grade, weave and harvest on the other.
Can you cover Yiwu in the same trip?
Often, yes. Yiwu's Futian Market is about an hour from Hangzhou. Many buyers pair an office meeting here with a wholesale run there. I can interpret both and plan the route between them.
Do you cover the Xiaoshan and Binjiang business districts?
Yes. Xiaoshan, Binjiang and Yuhang are the main sourcing and office zones, and I move between them as part of the day. Send me the addresses and I'll route it.
What does a day cost in Hangzhou?
The published rates are above: $80–$140 half-day, $99–$250 a full day across the Binjiang offices and the silk or tea suppliers, $800–$1,250 a week. The hour to Yiwu and back, if you pair the trip, is travel inside the day rate, not a surcharge.
Do the suppliers or agents pay you a commission?
No. You're my only client, which is why I can tell you when an e-commerce factory is a drop-ship reseller, or when a silk grade isn't what the label claims. An agent paid by the supplier has no reason to. See product sourcing.
Is it you on the job, or a hired stand-in?
Me. As the referral above shows, clients reach me directly and get me, not a name passed to a junior. For a large team I bring in vetted colleagues, and booked dates I flag at once and refer on.
