On the ground in Guangzhou
An English-Chinese interpreter and translator in Guangzhou.
Guangzhou is the front door of the Pearl River Delta. The Canton Fair (Pazhou / Canton Fair Complex) runs two sessions a year, spring and autumn, across phases that each cover different product categories, and picking the wrong session wastes the trip.
Off the fair calendar, the real sourcing is in the wholesale clusters: Baiyun leather goods, the Shahe and Zhongda textile markets, Liwan accessories, and the factory floors out in Foshan and Shunde. Cantonese is still the working language in many of the older trading houses, and English drops off fast once you leave the showroom for the back office where the prices actually move.

Do you cover the Foshan and Shunde factories near Guangzhou?
Routinely. Send me the supplier addresses and I'll plan a route that clusters factory visits into a single day instead of crossing the delta twice.
Is Cantonese actually useful here, or is Mandarin enough?
Mandarin covers the fair and the formal meetings. But in Guangzhou's older wholesale markets and family-run trading houses, Cantonese opens doors Mandarin doesn't, and I work in both.
Do you offer Guangzhou translation services, not just interpreting?
Yes. Alongside on-site interpreting at the fair and on factory visits, I handle written translation: contracts, spec sheets, product listings and supplier emails, so the deal holds up in writing after you fly home.
What will a day at the Canton Fair cost me?
Rates are published above: $80–$140 half-day, $99–$250 a full day on the Pazhou floor, $800–$1,250 for the full fair week. City travel between the halls and the Foshan factories is included, and so is the written summary each evening.
Do you take commission from the suppliers you introduce?
Never. I'm paid by you and only you, so when a Pazhou exhibitor is a trading company dressed up as a factory, I say so. An interpreter on a supplier's payroll has every reason not to. If you want the sourcing handled end to end, see product sourcing.
Can you handle a large buying group, or is it just you?
Both. Most clients get me alone. But as the case above shows, I have put several vetted interpreters alongside a 20-person buying group so no sub-team waited on one guide. Tell me the group size and I'll scope it honestly.
