Book a Yunnan tour

Yunnan is China's most diverse province: 25 ethnic minorities, four UNESCO sites, year-round spring weather. The languages and terrain make a local guide who interprets close to essential for anything beyond the headline towns.

  • Park entry, tickets and meals are separate; the car is part of the package.
  • Several days back to back carry a per-day discount.

FAQ

Yunnan Tour, Private Guided Days Across the Province: your questions.

How much does a private tour guide cost in Yunnan?
Out here a private car is part of the day, so it is quoted as one guide-and-car package: reckon on $200–$320 for the group, guide and car together, with park and attraction tickets separate. Yunnan spreads across Kunming, Dali and Lijiang. Multi-day trips carry a per-day discount, and we put the figure in writing within 12 hours.
Is the price per person or for the whole group?
For the whole group. One guide and the day rate cover everyone, whether you are two people or six, so the cost per head drops as the group grows. Only a private car, if you add one, scales with the size of the group. Many online listings quote per person, which is why a private group rate often works out cheaper.
What is included in the tour guide fee?
The day covers the guide and the private car together, plus the travel between sights. Park and attraction tickets and meals are billed separately at face value, with no markup. The written quote lists everything before you book.
Does the tour guide price change by season?
The guide's day rate holds steady through the year. What changes with the season is availability: the spring bloom and the Golden Week holidays are the tightest windows. Book those windows early. The rate itself moves only with the length and complexity of the day, not the month.
Why is a guide worth it in Yunnan?
Yunnan has unique ethnic cultures and diverse local languages. A guide who interprets opens up the minority villages and markets a self-guided trip would miss.
How spread out are the sights?
Very. Lijiang, Kunming, Xishuangbanna and Shangri-La are far apart across a mountainous province, so itineraries are usually multi-day and routed deliberately.
Can the same guide handle interpreting?
Yes. If you need a working interpreter in Yunnan rather than a tour, the Yunnan interpreter page covers the business side of the same service.
When is the best time to visit Yunnan?
Yunnan's spring-like climate makes most of the year workable, but spring and autumn are best: clear skies, comfortable temperatures and the rice terraces at their most photogenic. The summer rains green everything but can disrupt mountain roads.
What should I know about the altitude in Yunnan?
It varies a lot. Kunming and Lijiang sit comfortably high, but Shangri-La climbs past 3,200m and is felt, so we ease into the northern leg. Take the first day there gently and drink plenty of water.
