On the ground in Qingdao

An English-Chinese interpreter and translator in Qingdao.

Qingdao is Shandong's export powerhouse and the home base of Haier and Hisense, so home appliances and white goods are the headline category, backed by machinery, auto parts, and a major food and seafood processing and export trade through Qingdao Port. The work is factory visits, OEM and private-label negotiation, and supplier QC, and the region runs its own large export expos as a 'Canton of the North'. The appliance and manufacturing clusters sit out in the Chengyang and Jiaozhou development zones rather than the old town, and the prices that decide a deal are quoted in Mandarin on the factory floor.

YOUR TRIP
FAQ

Qingdao interpreter, your questions.

Do you know the appliance and white-goods supply base?
Yes. Appliances are Qingdao's signature export category. I interpret OEM, private-label, certification and MOQ talk on the factory floor and tell you where a quote actually lands.
Can you help with seafood and food-export meetings?
Yes. Qingdao Port handles a large food and seafood export trade, so I'll interpret the processing, cold-chain, certification and shipping detail so the terms are clear before you commit.
Are the factories in the city, or do we travel?
Most of the manufacturing sits in the Chengyang and Jiaozhou development zones outside the old town. I plan the route and travel between sites is included, so the day stays productive.
What does a day at the appliance factories cost?
The published rates are above: $80–$140 half-day, $99–$250 a full day on the line in Chengyang or Jiaozhou, $800–$1,250 a week. The travel out to the development zones is in the rate, and you get a written QC and pricing record each evening.
Do the appliance or seafood suppliers pay you anything?
No. My fee is yours alone, so when an OEM factory is a trading company, or a cold-chain certification looks thin, I tell you. A supplier-paid fixer never would. More on sourcing.
Is it just you on the job?
Yes, for a normal Qingdao trip you get me, not a junior. For a large buying or audit team I bring in vetted colleagues. Book a couple of weeks ahead; the northern export expos fill the calendar.
